The Broadcast Music Industry (BMI) awards were held recently in Nashville.
The music licensing agency recognizes artists based on radio airplay for the previous year.
TobyMac was Christian Songwriter of the Year for the third straight year – other winners were Mark Hall of Casting Crowns, Matt Maher, and producer-writer Chris Stevens.
Kirk Franklin’s “I Smile” was named Christian Song of the Year.
Chris Tomlin and Jason Crabb both performed.
Among other honorees were Brandon Heath and Jason Roy (Building 429).
